The Features Shiroishi Umen: Yamabuki-tei

Experience the authentic taste of Miyagi at Yamabuki-tei, a charming restaurant housed in a restored merchant residence from the late Edo period.
The specialty here is Shiroishi Umen, a unique style of short noodle with a 400-year history. Unlike most noodles, Umen is produced entirely without oil, making it exceptionally light and healthy. Legend has it that a devoted son created these noodles for his father, who suffered from a delicate stomach. At only 9 cm (3.5 inches) long, they are remarkably easy to eat and possess a silky-smooth texture. Enjoy a peaceful meal in a historic setting that embodies the warm hospitality of the Tohoku region.

Mount Zao Summit & Okama（The Emerald Green Crater Lake）

A symbol of the Zao Mountain Range, Okama is a breathtaking circular crater lake formed by ancient volcanic activity. It is named for its resemblance to a traditional Japanese cooking pot (kama).
Known as the "Five-colored Lake," the water shifts beautifully between emerald green and turquoise depending on the sunlight and weather. The lake is highly acidic (approx. pH 1.3), creating a silent, otherworldly atmosphere where no life exists. The striking contrast between the rugged, volcanic crater walls and the shimmering, jewel-toned water offers a powerful glimpse into the dynamic geothermal forces of Japan. This ever-changing landscape is truly a once-in-a-lifetime sight.

Zao Shuzo Sake Brewery Tour

Founded in 1873 Zao Shuzo is a traditional sake brewery located in the heart of Shiroishi City along the Sawabata River. For over 150 years they have stayed true to their original brewing philosophy. By utilizing the pure spring water from the Zao mountain range and the cold winter winds known as Zao Oroshi the brewery creates exquisite sake using locally grown rice. Their products have received numerous awards in various competitions and are widely loved under the brand name Zao. At the Zao Shuzo Exhibition Hall you can see the Sugidama or cedar ball hanging as a sign of freshly brewed sake. Visitors can enjoy a free sake tasting corner or participate in a brewery tour which requires an advance reservation.

No tour conductor will accompany the group. However a professional English-speaking guide will provide assistance from the meeting point until the end of the tour.

Any meals or transportation costs not mentioned in the itinerary and all personal expenses incurred during the tour must be paid by the participant.

Please provide your name to the staff at the meeting point before boarding the bus. We will depart exactly as scheduled so we kindly ask for your cooperation in being punctual.

We do not guarantee transportation fees from your home to the departure/arrival point, cancellation charges of accommodation etc. due to cancellation of the tour.
